Rhabdomyosarcoma(RMS):-
It is rare cancer that forms in the body's soft tissues, such as muscle and connective tissue.
- Cancer cells look similar to immature muscle cells.
- Can occur at any age but mostly affects children and young adults.
- It most commonly forms in
- Head and neck
- Bladder
- Vagina
- Prostate
- Testes
- Arms and legs
Types:-
There are two main types
- Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma(ERMS)
- Alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma(ARMS)
- It Affects children in first 5 years of life.Most common type at all ages.
- Cells look like developing muscle cells of 6-8 week old embryo.
- Tends to occur in head and neck,bladder,vagina,or in or around prostate and testicles.
- It affects all age groups equally.It makes up large portion of RMS in older teens and children than in younger children.
- Most often occurs in large muscles of trunk,arms and legs.
- Cells look like normal muscle cells seen in 10-week-old fetus.
- Tends to grow faster than ERMS and usually requires intense treatment.
